DeMarcus Cousins' commitment to Memphis wasn't as big a blow to N.C. State as it might have been portrayed, according to All-Star sports recruiting analyst Bob Gibbons.
Yes, Cousins, a 6-foot-10 forward from Mobile, Ala., is rated among the top 10 seniors in the nation. Yes, N.C. State was listed as a finalist for his services.
But Gibbons said N.C. State never had much of a chance at Cousins. And Gibbons called Cousins a "high-maintenance" player. Gibbons said losing Derrick Favors of Atlanta to Georgia Tech in a Jan. 14 commitment was much more significant because the Wolfpack had a better shot at Favors, who's rated the No. 1 player in the class by scout.com.
"N.C. State was in the mix (for Cousins), but they never were considered to be a likely target for him," Gibbons said. "I think they had a better shot at Derrick Favors (and) he's a different kid, more structured, with more team values."
Could Cousins have caused the same kind of chemistry problems at N.C. State that J.J. Hickson did in 2007-08 before leaving after his freshman season for the NBA? Perhaps. That's why losing Cousins might not be such a big blow to N.C. State or coach Sidney Lowe on the recruiting circuit. – Ken Tysiac

What non-inmate would ever choose to play for Sid Lowe at NCSU? Horrible team, horrible coach, horrible campus, and the ugliest cheerleaders outside Dook in the ACC. State is an afterthought in the ACC in every sport.
Anon - Whatever ACC school you affiliate yourself with must be so proud of your positive attitude and humbleness. NC State is a great school and trying to convince yourself otherwise seems to be an approach that has made you a bitter bitter person.
We love Sidney, our players, and our cheerleaders are far from ugly. I suppose all of this trash talking helps you sleep at night though. If such an afterthought, why take the time to comment? Go pack!
