Lawson's status depends on practice

North Carolina point guard Ty Lawson (above) "has to practice half the practice Tuesday and all the practice Wednesday or I'm not going to play him on Thursday" when the Tar Heels face Radford in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, coach Roy Williams said on the Dan Patrick radio show Monday.

Lawson missed UNC's two ACC tournament games because of a jammed right big toe; the junior said after Saturday's loss to Florida State he "definitely" planned to play Thursday. But he hasn't practiced since he played against Duke more than a week ago; the injured toe was numbed at the time.

Williams said on the radio show that Lawson would have played in the ACC tournament if it was the Final Four, but the speedy guard still wouldn't have been 100 percent. Williams said he didn't know if Lawson would be back to 100 percent before the end of the tournament.

Don't we already know Roy Williams to be a sandbagging liar?

here again this guy this time of year lets his teammates down more than anyone else i know. he must have a pain tolerace level of 0. what is he going to do in the nba when gets a little injury sit on the bench the whole season. damn look at gerald wallace fo the bobcats he plays with cracked ribs. his will to win and compete makes lawson look like a second rate draft pick at that

Geez-us....people..PEOPLE..!

Can we put the Carolina hate to rest for a minute...and make an INTELLIGENT point?!

My questions is, when will Roy Williams stop giving away valuable
playing time to Bobby(senior)F.Play the future like Coach K.Tar Heels can't win with Bobby F.

Another idiot who hasn't a clue how painful this injury is. Ty Lawson wants to play in this tournament more than you can imagine, "shots." However, in the end, it probably won't be his decision. I've had cracked ribs and this toe injury, and while both are painful, I would much rather have to play basketball with the rib injury. Why do you clueless people even bother leaving comments?

Shots, you're an idiot! Maybe you don't understand the difference College, and Professional basketball. Gerald Wallace gets paid, and has incentives in his contract to motivates him tp play hurt. Lawson doesn't want to jepordize his future to earn as Wallace does, it's that simple. If he's hurt let him heal until they need him. Surely, Carolina should be able to beat the 16th seeded team from Radford, and he should be able to play the following game. If he's hurt, he's hurt period. Despite your name, I bet you've never played at the level of Lawson, and the only thing you're good at shooting is "off at the mouth"! Who are you to question somebody's injury, or their heart. Say what you want hater, next year he'll be a millionaire, and you'll be hating on the next ACC Player of the year.

Again, I ask the question, why is Coach Williams giving bobby(senior)F,this valuable playing time? Drew
the future, and he needs it.

seriously if you ask why we are giving bobby frasior the point you are an idiot. Larry Drew 2 is not reliable, Frasior is not going to make us loss, Drew can he is a freshman recruited to be a back up. He is not the future, Dexter Strickland is the future for the next year heels. Larry Drew 2 right now is not as reliable, plays worse defense and turns the ball over more than frasior. So if I were the coach I would start Frasior, and maybe take a timeout and draw up a play when I am down by three with 16 seconds left and two timeouts in my pocket instead of just letting them play. That's just me but larry drew 2 should not start.

Maybe cause Frasior's been there before and Drew hasn't. Drew is still getting more PT now anyways. Plus Frasior plays solid D and that's what Carolina needs now.

Thomas, Idiot's a strong word, however, Bobby, Never shot the ball, foul a three point shooter,
couldnot defense Douglass, missed the front end of an important one and one. And, don't know how to throw and entry pass to Hansbough.
I quess you missed the assist from Drew to Davis. But I'm an Idiot and you are blind.

If Lawson does not play in the round of 32 (assuming we get by Radford) we are DONE. What a WASTE of a season. Losing Ellington and Graves put the nail in our coffin, and Ty's big toe sealed it.

Anonymous said...

Just curious...when did Ellington go down?

Anonymous said...

Assuming RoysBoys means Ginyard?

Anonymous said...

I know, I was just implementing he shouldn't have posted that because Graves only gave us minutes with TO's and quick bad shots that rarely went in. But I think the team is passed missing those two guys anyways. Sure it would be really nice to have Ginyard but we'll take him next year.

One, Bobby does shoot the ball especially against Duke one of the only reasons we won both those games was because of the exceptional play from Deon Thompson and Bobby. Two, he was slower than douglas but Drew would not have been any better, Bobby has consistently proven he is a better defender than drew. Also, Drew turns the ball over a lot more than Bobby, look up assist to turn over ration and you will see Bobby is much higher than Drew. Another thing, is while Drew has had a couple of bright spots this season overall he has not been as important to this team as Bobby, I could give you a list of nice passes bobby has made this season the point is one play or one pass doesn't illustrate that one player should play and the other shouldn't, it has to be evaluated for the whole year. Lastly, lawson will be back, carolina will advance and all of you haters are going to swallow a lot of the things you are talking about right now.

at least larry drew II can shoot it if you lokk at bobbys shot as a freshman and now he truely has never been the same and the fact is, that people expect ty lawson to run 120 mph every game and get 50 steals and 30 assists, but then get angry when he gets hurt he always gives that extra effort as tyler does, its just that tyler is a little tougher, and lots of people diss ty and larry because unlike lebron james, and kobe bryant, they are more concerned with cutting down the nets in detroit than to make sports center every night with 50 points, and most people just dont seem to like that

Bobby Frasior is no defensive stopper... he gets killed out there continuously by guards that have average speed and talent. Lets face it, he's not the same Bobby before the knee injury. FSU guards were toying with him and at times he looks lost. His shot is non existent... I hope Ty comes back at least by the 2nd game or we are TOAST!

lawson sucks. he will not last 5 years in the nba. gets hurt to easy.

Kerry,
I am sorry you feel that way. At least you I do not go around calling people names like you. Fact is Lawson's NBA status has to be in real question with his durability. He certainly will not make as much as you think. Also if he is so hurt why the heck was he jumping up and down on the sidelines durning the VA Tech game. Also why did roy williams not take care of his point guard in practice and not protect him from injury in practice. seems a little ridculous to me. Of course roy williams i don't think much of him as a coach anyway.

haha i agree shots. i hate unc and cant wait to see lawson not be able to play ti, the sweet 16 and when he comes out he gets hurt even more and gonzaga beats them

Shouldn't the "undefeated", "Greatest Team of All Time" have the depth and talent to overcome the loss of one key player?

SHOTS - You win the award for the DUMBEST blogger on the Observer thread. I read over your comments and can not find one that makes even the least bit of sense. Your hate and bias make you a pathetic little weasel. You must have applied to Carolina and been turned down.

Tarholes lost 3 key players?? Who? Zeller's healthy now, and doesn't have a huge impact. Ginyard gave them about 3.5 reb/game. Don't try to tell me Graves was a "key" player...

Again, "The Greatest Team of All Time" should be able to fix their deficiencies and function without ONE (1, I, uno) key player.

No UNC players will be quality NBA players.

The Kansas game and fact they all came back this year should tell you that.

Why did the press think that a group of NBA Draft rejects would have what it takes to go undefeated?
