A Tar Heel surprise in NBA draft? NBA.com has a big one at No. 9

James Michael McAdoo (Getty Images)
NBA.com's Scott Howard-Cooper has an interesting 2012 NBA mock draft out today.

It has, no surprise, Kentucky freshman Anthony Davis at No. 1. At No. 2 is North Carolina's Harrison Barnes, a sophomore shooting guard.

But it gets really interesting for North Carolina fans later in the top 10. That's where Howard-Cooper lists, at No. 9, freshman forward James Michael McAdoo. He's ahead of  junior forward John Henson (No. 13), sophomore point guard Kendall Marshall (No. 18) and senior center Tyler Zeller (No. 22), despite his limited playing time.

McAdoo has played well of late in place of Henson, who missed time with a wrist injury.

Two Duke players, freshman Austin Rivers at No. 14 and junior Mason Plumlee at No. 29, are the only other ACC players he projects to go in the first round.

And don't get us started on the NBA listing players who have not announced they are leaving school  in a mock draft on its own website. Tampering much?

This is WRONG on every level! The NBA should know better.

So everyone from North Carolina? I don't think so. That's highly bias and unrealistic. There are a lot of other NBA prospects all over the country, NOT just NC.

That's why this is a blog.

blog=someone's personal wish. :)

Who cares? None of them may go to the NBA this season unless they win it all. Zeller being the only senior.

As for the NBA, they put garbage on the court. Look at the Boobcats.

Hahah will be hilarious when McAdoo bolts along with the rest of them following this "Dream Season's" disappointment. And any of you Heel homers think Henson or Barnes are coming back, keep living in delusion.

Hello, 2013 NIT!!!

Young Mr. Rivers' position was incorrect. Austin Rivers will be off the board by the 5th pick and possibly as high as the 3rd pick.

It must be tough to have to go through life hating Carolina.

One word Carolina hater LEHIGH!!!

Good to see all these Dook fans looking at our roster since yall have no stars. Yall will be terrible again next year. Probably facing Lehigh in the NIT semi`s

Anonymous said...

Even if Dook has the same team. They would still finish second AGAIN in the ACC. Rivers will be gone, b/c he is selfish and will be in the NBA lottery. Mason senior will be playing for NBA developmentally league, and then never "offically" make a team roster. Mason will be drafted in the 1st round toward the end and then end up overseas like Singler.

Reason why I hate reading the Charlotte Observer. Nothing but Tarhole homers commenting on everything. If UNC is to win it, it is this year. Sorry fellas. If they don't it's going to be a while again for ole huckleberry hound.

Please no more UNCheat tarholes.Didn't the b-cats learn something with ray failton and sluggo sean may?

Anon 4:46pm and 4:47pm. We will win another national title before Dook. Mark that down! Call Ol Roy what you want. Read a book called Duke Sucks...it reveals alot about Coach K. Losing to a 12th seed? Historic...worst coaching job EVER, but the players were to blame as well since they weren't talented enough to beat Lehigh in Greensboro...nobody like Dook.

I am a duke fan but would definitely take mcadoo anywhere from 7-13...the nba draft is ALL about potential and he is loaded with it. I ran the notion by a tarheel coworker of mine recently and he was like no way, but i told him dont be surprised if he bolts!

I was actually watching the Duke game in Greensboro. I am not a fan of either Duke or UNC, but they were getting booed so bad in what was suppose to be a "home" game for them. Support for that team is paper thin. Just sad.

Anonymous said...

Haha yeah lets read a book called duke sucks for clear unbiased info on coach k...id rather get my info from that idiot nasally dork on the mac attack whatever his name is...also if i were a hole fan i wouldnt be talking about the nit, what with your recent history and all...

how is that unrealistic when it happens every 3-5 years? they might not all get drafted this year as 1 or 2 will stay but they will all get drafted.

may/felton/williams/mccants with jawad williams signing as a free agent and david noel being drafted the following year

hansbrough/lawson/ellington/green with brandan wright having left earlier

williams/jamison/carter

then you got all the reyshawn terry's and deon thompson's who have been euroleague all-stars for years and have been on nba rosters at some point.

then UNC will be garbage next year while they reload talent.

The CO really should take more care not to agitate all these ABC'ers. They're apparently not taking their meds correctly.

UNC has been to more Final Fours and won more NCAA National Championships in this state than any other team. So if you're NOT a UNC Fan then shut you pie hole. I will laugh win UNC wins. Even without Marshall they will cruise past Ohio and beat either NC State (like they did 3 times this year)or an overrated Kansas team that has 2 players worth mentioning.

Lehigh WINS! Too funny...Dook is terrible..

To anon @ 4:56...those boos were coming from the tarhole fans because they are still jealous that the cheaters from unc have never won BACK TO BACK national championships! They are also still mad that they didn't win the NIT championship 2 years ago hahahahah.

Anon 4:52, Felton was better during his time with the b-cats then Henderson is doing right now. May was good when he play but he was injury-prone. Also, you right that the b-cats should not have draft felton and may in the 2005 draft, but the b-cats should have picked Psycho T over Henderson in 2009.

Heels fans need not worry about this article. Roy will make sure that he has another season to create a bigger buzz and possibly hit All America team first and go in the top 2 or 3. He is not ready for the beast yet and will have another year at the Hill.

No way Rivers leaves to be a mid-first rounder. Tellin' it how it is...sorry if that hurts Heel Nation (aka Charlotte)

Anonymous said...

UNC better win it all NOW or it's gonna be a while...

P.S. Dook brings the entire roster back (except Miles) plus Alex Murphy, Rasheed Sulaimon, Amile Jefferson

P.P.S. State brings the best recruiting class in the ACC in next year (sorry Dook)...

Go Pack!

Anonymous said...

NC State still has a very good shot at Amile Jefferson...he's not at Duke yet...actually heard State is in better shape than Duke at this point in time

UNC-CHeats.

If Carolina has all these "NBA 1st rounders" on thier team how in the world would they ever get beat by anyone, especially DUKE?? Goes to show you, Ol Roy CAN'T COACH and K gets the best out of sub par talent...You Tarholes back yourselves into a corner with every comment made. Duke sucks but they beat UNC...Duke players suck..but Singler and Plublee both won a National Championship..What valid points does a UNC fan ever make??? On a side note, I would like to see all the kids come back to college...NBA sucks and if 5 kids off of any team is in the top 15-20 picks then the NBA is on think ice....

To the author of this blog, NBA.com is owned by Disney, it is not owned by the NBA.

I love how everyone is saying that Carolina HAS to win this year or it's gonna be awhile. I understand that Duke and NC State have really good recruiting classes coming in, but so does Carolina (as always).

But that's okay, you guys keep looking forward to next year, while us Carolina fans watch our team cut down the nets in New Orleans THIS YEAR.

LEHIGH > DUKE

To the author of the above comment: you're wrong. NBA.com is run by Turner Sports.

NC State should be the best team in the ACC next year. They will be overwhelmingly experienced compared to UNC and Duke, and will have all the talent of those two teams as well.

Anonymous said...

Agree that State will be really good next year.

UNC will be pretty raw and young, but actually think Duke will be super-experienced (prob bring every starter back). Duke's probably the one to beat next year but you never know...

Regardless, good to see 4 teams now in a legit hunt for the ACC next year! Can the 'Noles defend their title?

ESPN.com a good enough source for Heel fans in denial??
