Information on ACC postseason awards

Here’s a primer on post-season ACC awards.

• The voting deadline for dues-paying members of the Atlantic Coast Sports Media Association (ACSMA) will be 11 p.m. Sunday _ well after N.C. State’s 6 p.m. game at Virginia Tech concludes regular-season play.

• Selected will be first, second and third-team all-ACC, all-freshman team, all-defense team, freshman of the year, coach of the year, defensive player of the year and player of the year.

• The schedule for news release: The various teams will be announced on Monday. Individual awards on Tuesday.

• Last year’s winners:

1st Team: Nolan Smith (Duke, unanimous), Jordan Williams (Maryland), Malcolm Delaney (Va. Tech), Kyle Singler (Duke), Reggie Jackson (Boston College).

2nd Team: Tyler Zeller, John Henson and Harrison Barnes (UNC), Iman Shumpert (Ga. Tech), Jeff Allen (Va. Tech)

3rd Team: Chris Singleton (Fla. State), Demontez Stith (Clemson), Joe Trapani (BC), Malcolm Grant (Miami), Kendall Marshall (UNC).

All-Freshman: Barnes and Marshall (UNC), Travis McKie (Wake Forest), Terrell Stoglin (Maryland), C.J. Leslie (N.C. State).

All-Defense: Henson, Singleton, Shumpert, Nolan Smith, Jerai Grant (Clemson).

Freshman of Year: Barnes.

Defensive Player of Year: Henson.

Coach of Year: Roy Williams (UNC).

Player of Year: Nolan Smith.

• After Duke stopped UNC 75-58 for the tournament championship in Greensboro, Nolan Smith was voted most valuable player (Everett Case Award).

All-tournament team: Smith and Singler (Duke), Zeller and Barnes (UNC), Stith (Clemson).

• Roy Williams and Nolan Smith were landslide winners in the coach and player voting.

Smith got 73 votes, Singler one vote and Jordan Williams one.

Williams got 52 votes, Clemson’s Brad Brownell eight, BC’ Steve Donahue six, FSU’s Leonard Hamilton 4, Duke’s Mike Krzyzewski three and Va. Tech’s Seth Greenberg and Virginia’s Tony Bennett one each.

The rookie vote followed the same pattern with Barnes landing 64 votes, Marshall seven, McKie two and Stoglin one.
