Could Tar Heels' backup point guard be no one?

CHAPEL HILL -- North Carolina coach Roy Williams said something interesting on Monday that you might have missed. He said the Tar Heels would experiment with a kind of offense that doesn’t necessarily require a point guard. This offense, Williams said, would be more rooted in a team passing game – which implies a lot of ball movement.

Of course, Strickland served as the backup point guard to Marshall. And without Strickland, White is really the only other point guard on the roster. And he is young and unproven to this point. So it makes sense that Williams might want to experiment with an offense that doesn’t require a point guard.

As of Tuesday afternoon, though, P.J. Hairston hadn’t yet seen what that offense would look like. He presumed the Tar Heels would practice it later on Tuesday.

“I’m looking forward to it, just to see how it works,” Hairston said.

By the way, Hairston said Strickland has been in good spirits since suffering his injury. Hairston said that in the locker room the other day, Strickland told Reggie Bullock that he’d have to learn how to be a backup point guard now that Bullock is assuming Strickland’s role as the starting shooting guard.

“I think Reggie was standing in the locker room and dribbling a basketball saying, 'I’ve got to get ready,' ” Hairston said. “It’s kind of like a joke.”

As a NC State grad, I must admit that we are better at football than basketball....since Jimmy "V" we have no basketball program....we get UNC's leftovers....oh well!

Stillman was left on the floor at FSU........will Roy leave him again in case State fans "pose significant risks to the good UNC players" ?

that's what she said...

Don't have tp worry about State fans rushing the court at either game this year....they will be run out the door after their team is blown out.....state stinks!!! VT is better than NCSU..and you see what happened to them....holla!

Ummm, somebody needs to tell Roy that Herb Sendek tried the Point-less offense.

How'd that work out?

UNC is still the leading team in college basketball in points...regardless of what Roy does....UNC wins the ACC with ease...with no more than 2 losses...mark that down! They woke up after the beatdown at FSU. Remember our 2nd and 3rd string players are still above most starters for others teams in the ACC.

things are changing in the ACC. State on the rise. Cellar dwellars like miami, fsu, and vtech are giving Roy fits annually. Next yr 'Cuse and Pitt come to town.....

The Party is over for Tarholes.

holla!

Funny how many State trolls comment on an article that has jack isht to do when them. Then again, that's exactly what most of them do--spend their time worrying about a program that is historically far better than theirs. NC State is gonna get beat badly tomorrow night. Go home trolls!

NCSU envys UNC....ALWAYS HAS..ALWAYS WILL.....I guess that's what happens when your labeled the 4th best school out of the BIG 4....Lol...

The only 3 stats that you need to know....UNC 144 NCSU 75...playing twice a year...it would take NCSU over 34 years to catch up if they beat us 2x per yr...ain't gonna happen....Ol' Roy 16-1 (20-1 overall)....NCSU best coach Jimmy V was was 6-18.....the other coaches were far worse.....end of discussion...we can talk about Duke and Wake too....similar beating...

This smells of obvious racism against Opie Taylor from Wilmington. Let the protests commence.

Yes.I believe Roy will install a whole new offense in a day because you know UNC players can learn in a day what others take a whole season or more to absorb. Dumbest article in a long time.

First Stillman gets left to find his way back to the locker room in Tallahassee in hostile events, now he may be denied equal and fair shot at living out his dreams. This won't sit well with the NAACP.

You guys dogging on State no nothing about basketball. The Pack has a ton of talent and now has a good coach. Do some research! Sons! hahahahaha....

I am not saying the Pack will win tommorrow night but it won't be the blowout some Heel fans are thinking and I would not be shocked if the Pack win.

You're right...not a blowout...UNC 82 nc state 78....but a loss is a loss....nc state is use to that

UNC...1st in the nation in scoring, 1st in the nation in rebounds, 5th in the nation in assists. You don't want to face them in the tournament.

I think that what Tar Heels needed at that time was a pill of motivation and self-confidence, with that I was sure they could have done it
