Reports: Nets to pursue Krzyzewski

In June, Mike Krzyzewski said he planned to spend the rest of his coaching career at Duke.

That may not stop NBA teams from approaching him, though. Citing unnamed sources, yahoo.com and northjersey.com reported Friday that the New Jersey Nets have plans to target Krzyzewski in their coaching search.

Krzyzewski will coach his 1,000th game at Duke on Saturday against Maryland on his 63rd birthday. Duke spokesman Matt Plizga said the school won't comment on rumors.

The next media availability for Krzyzewski will be after Saturday's game against Maryland.

During his yearly summer news conference last June, though, Krzyzewski said he will remain at Duke for the rest of his coaching career. At the time, he was responding to reports that he would be sought again to coach the Los Angeles Lakers.

"I'm not leaving Duke," Krzyzewski said in June. "Whatever you hear about anything like that, I will never leave Duke until I leave coaching."

In July of 2005, Krzyzewski turned down an offer to coach the Lakers that was worth a reported $40 million over five years. He previously considered offers to coach the Boston Celtics, the Miami Heat and the Portland Trail Blazers.

That was July 2004 that K turned down the Lakers.

If he turned down the Lakers, why on earth would he go to the Nets? That would be a classic hero to zero move.

The Nets have the best shot at the #1 pick John Walls and also Dallas 1st round pick this year and enough cap room to sign 2 top priced free agents. Approval in the work for a new stadium in Brooklyn plus about to be sold a billionaire that wont mind spending some money. Those are just a couple reasons why the Nets job is not as bad as it might look right now.

BINGO - he coaches New Jersey now -could not have said it better myself.

I was in a bar with Coach K one time and a man took his "member" out and had a pet alligator - he hit the alligator over the head with a 2 x 4 and the alligator chomped down - the man did not move - he said "does anyone in here want to try that" and Coach K said "I will if you dont hit me as hard with the 2 x 4"
