Tar Heels fear Wear has torn labrum

The Tar Heels are waiting for test results, but coach Roy Williams said Monday night that freshman David Wear might miss the rest of the season because of his hip injury.

"To be honest with you, we may have lost David for the rest of the season ... it's a possible labrum tear in his hip, and we don't fee real good about it,'' Williams said on his weekly radio show. "...So we'll find out late tomorrow about David."

Wear, a reserve forward, was limited to eight minutes on Saturday at Boston College because of the hip injury and underwent tests Monday night. He was averaging a modest 2.9 points and 1.7 rebounds -- but his 10.4 minutes were key, because of UNC's multitude of injuries in the frontcourt.

Earlier Monday, Williams said that David's twin brother, Travis, might be able to return Wednesday night against Florida State, depending on how he fares in practice Tuesday. Travis Wear has missed four games because of a sprained left ankle. -- Robbi Pickeral

That just means 8 more minutes for John Henson and/or Tyler Zellar. The Wear twins look a little lost at times and I don't see them playing a big role in the next few years. As much as I would love for them to be the next coming of Tyler Hansbrough, they aren't even 5% of the player he was. Hopefully they win enough games to make the NIT. The young guys could use an extra game or two. If you are a real fan you take the karma, the insults, and the rough years on the chin and not complain about it. Roy has won 2 championships in 4 years and should have won 3. Nobody in Tar Heel nation can complain about those results. If you do, just get off the bandwagon and jump over to the dark blue side. You will fit right in. Go Heels. Go Roy Williams.

UNC really needs to invest in their strength program. Their post players are beyond "lean" or "skinny." They are weak, get pushed off the block and cannot rebound in traffic.

Ed Davis - when he was able to play - routintely got pushed around like a rag doll. He's an amazing talent, but it's hilarious how he gets owned in the paint. And he was, this year, the best one the Heels had.

Sure, better guard play would be nice. Ginyard is terrible. Drew II is inconsistent and no one can shoot except William Graves. Still, the big guys have no strength and that, I submit, hurts the Heels as much as anything.

Lots of fair weather fans out this season. Just you wait until football season when Butch leads UNC to the Tire Bowl.
