Deon Thompson doesn't leave his apartment unless it's absolutely necessary anymore.
North Carolina's recent struggles (seven losses in the last nine games) have been so traumatic Thompson spoke Tuesday of isolating himself.
"I don't even go out of the house," Thompson told reporters Tuesday during North Carolina's news conference to preview Wednesday night's home game against Duke. "I go to class, but I just try to leave the house as little as possible. When things aren't going the way you plan them to, it's kind of hard to be around (the community). It makes you just want to stay away."
This season has been a huge change for Thompson, who experienced nothing but success until now. During his first three seasons, the Tar Heels advanced to the NCAA Tournament regional finals, then the Final Four, then won an NCAA title.
He said he eats his meals at home and plays video games to pass the time.
"I just try to avoid going out as much as possible," Thompson said. "I try to get food delivered to the house and just stay in my room. . . .I have a great life. XBox 360 and stuff. So it's good."
Despite his frustration, Thompson was gearing up for success against No. 8-ranked Duke.
"Like coach said, how much worse can it get, you know?" Thompson said. "I don't think there's any added pressure. We're just going to go out there and play as a team and get this win."

Kind of like how he hides on the court!!!
Stick a frok in him...he is done!
Great character traits there Deon. Wait until you get out in the real world and search for your first job (sorry -- no NBA for you).
Two peas in a pop. Julius Peppers and Deon Thompson. The true Carolina way. How sad!
Roy has 1 outstanding player on this team: Ed Davis. How can it get any worse?...Ed Davis suffers a season ending injury and the Tarholes finish last in the ACC and don't even get invited to the NIT. (I wish no injuries on the kid and I'm a Wolfpack Alum) Thanks Roy, for being such a snob you missed the one recruit that would have made this team a national contender AGAIN....can you say John Wall... LOL!
Wow...grow up Deon. "Wahh wahh things aren't going my way so I'm going to shut myself up in my apartment." He really has learned the Carolina way. By the way, has anyone seen any UNC fans lately? I guess there is plenty of room on the bandwagon this year!
Anonymous at 4:24 - Roy has 7...yes 7 McD's All Americans on his team this year. I don't care if they were deserving or not, he has 7 and hasn't done squat. This debacle of a season is on Roy and Roy alone. he recruited these players and he has coached them. They are bad. I bet Coach K would have this team in the Top 15. he's the better coach-hands down.
Contrary to popular belief, Roy didn't have a chance with John Wall. Wall's handler, Mr. Clifton, made it well known that Mr. Wall would not be playing for UNC under any circumstances. Wall was going to play for Calipari no matter where he was. The only school Wall was even seriously considering in the ACC was NC State, and that's because his mom wanted him to go there. Kentucky will probably end up on probation in a few years anyway.
Hey wolfpack alum, when was the last time your team celebrated anything. That's RIGHT!!! you know the answer, so long ago you can't remember, all I can say to all the ACC schools, you better beat us now, enjoy this moment. Because WE will be back, and we sure don't need John Wall to help us. Have you checked his GPA at Kentucky, kids not even attending classes.
Why is Thompson not in the gym practising?
"Why is Thompson not in the gym practising?"
Curious spelling of "practicing". Are you Canadian or European? Or is that your home schooling shinning through?
I feel bad for the kid. Many forget the trauma they experienced in youth....or....they never experienced any real adversity because they stayed in their comfort zone rather than having the b*lls to go for the big stakes.
Something tells me there aren't many former high level D1 players on this forum. Maybe none? So they *probably* don't know exactly what he's going through.
I sympathize with the kid.
Maybe he should be shooting free throws and working on his box out drills instead of crying like a spoiled brat. And take the rest of the team with him. You guys have no heart! NO passion!
