UNC, Pack hoops, 15 Duke sports honored

The men's basketball teams at North Carolina and N.C. State were among the more than 800 Division I sports programs honored today for their academic achievement with Public Recognition Awards from the NCAA.

Each year the NCAA salutes the top 10 percent of teams in each sport as determined by the Academic Progress Rate formula that provides a real-time snapshot of the performance of each team in the classroom.

North Carolina and N.C. State were the only men's basketball teams honored from the ACC. Duke, with 15 teams honored including the football team, led the ACC in Public Recognition Awards. Boston College was next with 13. Among schools in the Carolinas, North Carolina received eight, Wake Forest five, N.C. State three and Clemson none.

Duke and Miami were the only ACC teams to receive Public Recognition Awards in football.

Nice going Ken----no mention of Charlotte. Typical of this rag called the CHARLOTTE Observer, ironically.

UNC has 26 teams with 8 honored. Charlotte has 16 teams with 5 honored. Just sayin'

This is BS. Mention Charlotte for once.

C'mon. Mention ANY non ACC school. Davidson, for example, had 13 squads honored, which is comparable to Duke. Congratulations to ALL.

Calm down people, it's not like this was from the Charlotte paper.

Was ACCHoops.blogspot.com not available? That's all that ever gets mentioned on this worthless blog.

The Observer proves that it is trash again and again by putting its name behind blogs like this.

Ever wonder why no one in Charlotte is buying the Observer anymore? How about actually covering news in Charlotte rather than worrying about other cities or even other states.

^yea, because everyone here wants to hear about the 49ners.

get over it folks, this is ACC country. You Charlotte fans (all 14 of you) need to realize that.

If all the Observer did was report on 49ners sports, they'd have no subscribers.

I must agree with previous anonymous (why are you guys afraid to post a screen name?) - but, as a UNCC grad and longtime Tarheel fan it is indisputable that the ACC rules in this state - and Charlotte is a UNC city. It would be nice (and just) for Charlotte and Davidson to be mentioned in the article. But, lets be honest - neither have the draw that even a Wake Forest has...let's not bicker and argue over who killed who...oh sorry - my inner Monty Python coming out! LOL - GO HEELS!!!!
