Duke's Smith out indefinitely with concussion

Duke sophomore reserve guard Nolan Smith is out indefinitely after suffering a mild concussion during Wednesday night's 78-67 win at Maryland, Duke officials announced Thursday afternoon.

"Nolan’s condition improved overnight, but we are going to proceed cautiously,” Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski said in a statement. "Our medical staff will continue to monitor his progress and he will return to the rotation when he is fully healthy. Nolan is an important part of this team and we are looking forward to his return."

Smith is averaging 8.5 points and 2.3 rebounds per game. Duke resumes play Saturday at Virginia Tech. - Ken Tysiac

Now that a dookie got hurt maybe the refs will try to clean up the rough stuff a little. Nah-- they will just work harder to protect dookies.

ok.. now a dookie is hurt.. Carolina just had Hansbrough come back after a light concussion.. When will they start calling more fouls under the basket?? Its good they let the guys play basketball, but how far will they let it go before someone really gets hurts.. especially on these Break-away dunks.

That was an awful hit he took last night. I'm hoping for a speedy recovery. Duke really needs his presence on the court.

Those with no compassion must be Tar-hole (or Maryland) fans...imagine that.

I guess 3 officials are not enough in the ACC. They did not even see the foul or the player lying on the floor! We will not hear anything from the ACC. Hope Smith is better soon.

News flash: It wasn't a foul. He just made a freshman mistake in not looking where he was going. And out indefinitely for a mild concussion? One game, tops. Grow up dookies

ummmm...Smith isn't a freshman. And it wasn't a freshman mistake. It is the defender of the man setting the pick to the call that out. Smith (the sophomore) did his job. The competitiveness of this game represents why ACC is at the top of the RPI.

Nolan's injury was entirely Zoubek's fault for not calling out the pick. It wasn't illegal. Zoubek is just a 7'1'' waste of a scholarship.

Good call, Terps...it's TOTALLY legal to lean into a screen and drop an elbow into the screenee's jaw. Glad none of you are officiating games. Somebody might get killed.

Hate to see someone hurt but basketball can be rough. I just thank goodness it wasn't #50 for Carolina or we wouldn't ever hear the end of it.

You can look at the video on these pages and if you can SEE you will see the shove. Yes, it was a foul!
Probably intentional.

Hats off to Maryland fans for cheering wildly while Smith lies motionless on the court for 5 minutes. Stay classy, Terps.

Hey, if we're talking about classy behavior on the part of Maryland, how about the "F \/ ( k you, Singler chant" after their player came down on Kyle's foot?
