Entertaining reader email claims UNC guard Kendall Marshall's injury is a hoax

CHAPEL HILL -- I've received a lot of email over the years. Some of it nice. Some of it mean. But I don't know if I've ever received an email quite like the one that popped into my inbox at 12:49 p.m. today.

The individual who wrote me - whose name I'm withholding to protect the guilty - claimed that North Carolina invented Kendall Marshall's injury so that the Tar Heels could remain in the news and overshadow N.C. State's appearance in the Sweet 16.

When I shared a snippet of the email earlier today on Twitter, it seemed people were interested in discussing it. So here it is - the full version - for your enjoyment:

SUBJECT: Marshall's wrist injury

Mr. Carter:

Did you actually see a doctor cut the wrist??? How many times has UNC played this card during the years??? You and I know there is no doubt Marshall will play this weekend. Roy knew that NC State was in the NCAA Tournament for the first time since the Titanic sunk, and lo and behold, the Pack was in the sweet 16. Roy knew the media would be all over the Wolfpack and he was not going to let that happen. We all know it is only about the Heels. So excuse me if do not believe the story...How is Barnes ankle??? Roy cried all year about that and he was 1st team ACC. I think the league should start fining the Heels for these false reports.

thanks

No, thank you.

How bizarre. I think this person is doing a parody of a paranoid N.C. State fan.

Sounds like a typical state fan to me: Jealous that UNC is relevant in College Basketball while they (with the exception of the last 2 weeks) are not. Craving the spotlight but always being overshadowed.

Looks like someone is comparing Roy Williams with Bill Belichick - stacking the injury report and making you prepare for anything. Well, Carolina has no backup PG and "anything" would be a nightmare for the Heels, even against the Bobcats.

I do agree with the sentiment that UNC gets more coverage, mainly because they are always in it. I congratulate State and hope they face UNC - then its put up or shut up time.

I have never seen a fan base with a larger inferiority complex.

This email was written by a UNC-CHeat fan.

It's ok UNCheats, you have football season to look forward to!! (oh wait...)

The NCAA last week wrapped up a case against North Carolina so disgusting in its depth and breadth of pure cheating (see: impermissible benefits, academic fraud; an assistant coach steering players to agents), the only thing more stunning than the violations was the kid gloves prosecution.

I have already congratulated the Wolfpack TEAM for their show of heart Sunday, but their fans are another store altogether...they are without a doubt the most insecure fanbase. Hypocritical, too. They win in football at Chapel Hill 2 years ago on a tipped pass and call UNC crybabies for arguing "foul" on it..then in the ACC tourney they throw the ball away and make stupid plays and yet cry "conspiracy!" what a joke they are

That's rich, cause the Heels have always had to work hard at keeping NC State in the shadows! ;)

The funniest part of this is the people in the comments desperately trying to deflect attention from the hilarious e-mail.

Even if it was a Carolina fan (or a Duke fan, not like they have much do to at the moment) it's funny because it reads like *a lot* of the comments State fans actually make.

Def the work of a State fan...in my experience Dook fans don't waste a ton of time with hoax emails and photoshopped nonsense...even some Walmart Tar Heels are guilty of that.

Truth is that the Heels can beat State with OR without Marshall.

Hey State fans....you are and always will be the red-headed step child....get use to the view...it's never going to change in basketball...accept it and move out of the way!!!!

I wonder if Roy is going to wear his KU support gear again this year? You know, since his team is out and all.

well I had not read that reader's email, but to tell you the truth, I had my suspicions about Kendall Marshall's injury too
