Psycho T goes car shopping

So what does a soon-to-be first-round draft pick do between workouts?

Go car shopping.

Former North Carolina forward Tyler Hansbrough spent last weekend checking out the sleek rides at Performance BMW in Chapel Hill, he writes in his blog at NBA.com.

"Coach [Roy] Williams has always had a BMW, so I've always liked his,'' he writes. "But I'm out there looking at different ones because I've always been a truck guy all my life. So it's been pretty cool checking out the cars and driving them around."

Hansbrough, who has been moving up the mock draft boards, worked out for the Utah Jazz on Monday. The draft is June 25. -- Robbi Pickeral

Wow! Someone might want to advise him that 60% of NBA players are BROKE within 5 years of the end of their playing career. It's hard to believe that somebody is in a rush to go out and WASTE money that they dont even have yet. How about spending 30-40K less for a car(Which all cars only have one purpose and that is to get from point A to B), and putting money in the bank for the future. What a concept!!

Yep, the BMW fits with both Roy's and Tyler's toolbag image. Thanks for the hard news.

True car shopping is a bit premature...but his family is pretty loaded and can afford it. I am actually kinda shocked he doesn't already own some kind of luxuary car.

And to the person who posted first..you are obviously a Duke fan!

opps make that who posted second.

Hansbrough has the right to look at cars. He'll be making enough money to buy himself a car. His family already has money and theres nothing wrong with "looking" at cars. People are just dumb with their comments on here.

No offense, but the 60% of NBA players being broke is total BS unless you can show a link to an official statistic.

Second, Tyler isn't likely to have a posse that goes out blowing cash by the truckload at stripper bars like most NBA players would.

Thirdly, he's LOOKING, not BUYING.

Fourthly, his signing bonus will pay for any car in cash 100 times over, as long as he isn't looking at Lamborghinis.

Do BMWs still stand for Break My Window?

It is true that an estimated 60% of NBA players are BROKE within 5 years of the end of their playing career. I dont have a link, just do a google search and you will see for yourself. Also, in the article I read it said many current players live paycheck to paycheck to support their ridiculous spending. Just because you can afford to buy something does not mean it's a smart choice. For example:

Buying any car in the $20,000 range that will get you for Point A to B and putting $30,000-$50,000 in the bank for the future is SMARTER than WASTING $50,000 to $70,000 on a car that will get you from Point A to B the same as the $20,000 car and putting no money in the bank.

I sure hope that the Bobcats draft Tyler and Dancin' Danny Green and also Ellington. All the games would be sellouts, even the away games. Go Heels!

I could see him driving a Scion xB or maybe a prius

who cares? This is almost as bad as the article following how upset the Tarheels were that they didn't get any cookies at their press conference in the NCAA tournament.

4 time All-American. National Player of the Year. ACC career scoring leader. Just won a National Championship. Has worked about better than almost any other big man in the draft with the exception of Blake Griffin (whom he measured better than). So yea, buy as many cars as you want, considering he drove an old-school Ford pickup during his time in Chapel Hill.

Kyle Singler will be the one driving the Prius next summer. Driving Shav Randolph around for their Euro league games...

who really cares what kind of car that POS drives.

What do you mean no one cares? How else can the Charlotte Observer and Raleigh N&O survive if there were no fluff UNC-CH stories? BTW, go for the HumVee Tyler. It fits your style and image.

Dont hate on the National Champs Baby!!! Your just embarrased becasue you cant get past VCU, WVU,and Villanova! Your program is just TRASH haters. An embarrasment to the ACC.

Why not have Roy buy him a car, sort of like when Roy bought all those "gifts" for players when he was at Kansas...

The CharObs and Raleigh N&O should have a daily article on where Tyler eats, shops, and who he stares at.

Singler will be a lottery pick my friend

Whatever kind of car he gets, I'm sure he will recklessly drive into other motorists, but the cops while deem the accidents the faults of the other motorists.

These comments crack me up. I'll play. We hope Tyler pays ca$h since he'll be unemployed from the NBA in one year.

Maybe Tyler's mommy can buy him a new car with her new UNC-CH administration job?

To all the haters: Regardless of the car that Tyler buys, I'm sure it will be sporting a brand spanking new 2009 National Champions bumper sticker!!

Beeker from the Muppet Show would approve of this thread.

Tyler, please save some of that paycheck for your eye surgery since you can't blink.

Hands No reminds me of a Nissan truck. Works hard as heck but not worth much and never driven by a professional.

Not only did he accomplish on the court, but he also was the academic player of the year. I say he is a typical, young single man who dreams of owning a luxury car-if he wasn't heading to the NBA and was looking for a job utilizing his college degree, no one would think twice about it. More power to you Tyler-You've worked your hind parts off on the court and in the classroom. You deserve to treat yourself for those 4 years of hard work!

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

The logic of him spending $20k instead of $50k is absurd. Assuming he's drafted mid first round, he'll get a rookie salary of around $1.4M. The average college graduate salary right now is $46k. Him spending $50k on a car is like an average college graduate spending around $1600 on a car.

I could see him and Green cruising around in a miata.......

I think TH should get Coach K to buy his 2010 BMW 750iL and get worthless ASSistant Wojo to drive him around to all of his NBA games.
