Duke plans huge basketball reunion

Duke is planning a huge celebration of coach Mike Krzyzewski's 1,000th game with the Blue Devils and the 70th year of basketball at Cameron Indoor Stadium.

The Duke Varsity Club will play host to what's being billed as the biggest men's basketball reunion in the history of program on Feb. 12-13. Krzyzewski's 1,000th game at Duke will be the 1 p.m. meeting on Feb. 13 with Maryland at Cameron Indoor Stadium.

Over 300 former players, coaches, managers and trainers will be invited back. The weekend will include a reception hosted by Duke athletic director Kevin White and an after-game party with the current Duke coaching staff.

"This will be an exciting weekend and a great way to celebrate the history of Duke basketball," White said in a statement.

Maybe they can all face west and bow to their daddy. Remember THE University of North Carolina is only 8 miles away.

Who celebrates a 70 year anniversary? I can see 75, but 70? Sounds to me like they're just jealous of all the attention UNC is getting for their 100th anniversary this year. Way to ride the coat tails of your DADDY, Dook! Why don't you come up with an original idea?

"Mike Krzyzewski's 1,000th game"

I'm guessing that's probably the main reason. Not the 70 years.

Anonymous said...

And it's the same weekend as UNC's official celebration of 100 yrs of basketball. How convenient.

Anonymous said...

Celebrating the accomplishment of the coach, not the program. Cant say I'm suprised. The ego of coach k is ridiculous.

Perhaps all in attendance will get a free can of shoe polish.

Anonymous said...

Wow, I wonder where they got that idea from?

Alums vs Transfers?

Anonymous said...

You have got to be kidding me!! Dook can't stand it that ole' Roy is taking away all the press from Rat Face. I guess tney needed some positive press since Friday wiill be the day that K loses another top recruit to...you guessed it...Da Heels!!

Anonymous said...

That UNC 100th anniversary has been scheduled for a long time (I'm not positive, but I think I read about it at the beginning of last summer).

It is redonkulous for K to schedule his "celebration" on the same weekend as the UNC celebration and I am not even a UNC fan.

Sooo lame...

Gay pride day in Durham? Welcome home Laettner.

Way to stay classy, guys.

yep, the unc fans here are real classy, just like the rest of the fanbase

WOW! IF SOME OF THIS WAS POSTED ON AN ARTICLE, YOU WOULD NOT BE READING MOST OF IT!! HEY CO, HOW COME YOU ARE NOT TAGGIN' THESE COMMENTS AS "ABUSIVE AND HAS BEEN REMOVED"? THIS SECTION IS OPEN TO THE PUBLIC AS WELL AS THE OTHER ARTICLES. I GUESS YOU ALL ARE IN THE LOUNGES READING YOUR OWN HYPE!

Duke fans we can hate each other. But don't ever make the mistake of thinking it is alright to make fun of a student who got shot from point blank range by two thugs from Durham. If you really got a problem lets get up and settle it and maybe it'll be you lying in the middle of the street.

Anonymous said...

By the way it is the 70th year in Hansbrough Indoor Stadium. They have had a program for longer than 100 years and they've accomplished much less.

Anonymous said...

UNC may be a public school, but it costs 10% (you know what a percent is because we know you didn't go there) of what it costs at Duke and it isn't in the murder capital of the south. Durham is a rundown shanty town and looks much more like a trailer park than where any of us came from. Why would anyone pay $35-40,000 a year to live in a crack den?

Anonymous said...

I wouldn't go to unc if you gave me a full scholarship.

Anonymous said...

That's fine we wouldn't want you, but don't make fun of an innocent girl who was shot to death by two wannabe gangsters from your town.

Anonymous said...

Nah, i wouldn't waste $50 applying. Btw, that wasn't me who made the other comment. And seriously, it's Duke's fault that Durham has a crime problem?

Gee, i guess UNC must get all the credit for every little positive thing that happens in chapel-hill. Right...

Anonymous said...

First of all you don't have the $50 because you just bought some crack. And those are Duke fans making fun of an innocent murder victim. So I don't feel bad lumping you all together.

Anonymous said...

And i don't have a problem lumping all unc fans together as idiots. Whatever, "debating" unc fans is about as fun as watching paint dry.

Anonymous said...

wasn't it last year when unc fans trashed ncsu's wall with signs of "cancer rules" after kay yow died? real classy

Anonymous said...

Only a Duke fan would bring penises into a talk about basketball. If that happened it is messed up and I'd be the first one to break some one's jaw.

Anonymous said...

Let me guess they will wear retro jerseys too. How original dook.

Anonymous said...

Tarholes suck.

This is coming from a State fan.

Anonymous said...

State? I didn't know you still had a program.

Common Sense said...

How embarrassing for duke. I don't think I've seen a more transparent maneuver by the head clown in Durham.

Will the Avery, Randolph, and Burgess families be there?

Anonymous said...

I hope they invite ,Taylor King,Eric Boateng,Eliot Williams,Phil Henderson, Bill Jackman,Greg wendt,Crawford Palmer,Billy Mccaffrey,Joey Beard,Christian Arst,Mike chappell,Chris Burgess,Michael Thompson, and Eric Boateng.

Anonymous said...

State fans know how to use the Internet? Shocking. I didn't even know their trailers had power.

Oh, and K is still the most egotistical douchenozzle in all of sports. dook gargles balls.

bill said...

lol, unc fans REALLY do think roy williams is god and tyler hansbrough is the messiah

bill said...

but keep following your delusional ways, since Duke fans could care less

Anonymous said...

Mr. Ken Tysiac, can you please removed the comment mentioning Eve Carson? It's incredibly offensive and disrespectful.

Anonymous said...

dook is good at copying other traditions. They wanted to look like an Ivy League school, so they went for a faux Gothic look using fake weathering techniques. So incredibly lame.

So it makes sense that they're trying to copy UNC's alumni game. Losers.

Rick said...

unc fans good at being hypocritical. they try to act so down to earth, yet think they are the greatest thing to grace the state of north carolina and superior to the other schools in NC.

they think they are so original, yet can't fanthom that plenty of other schools have held alumni games before. of course, if another school decides to have a team reunion (not even an alumni game!), they must be copying the oh-so-original tarholes.

but hey, with the N&O, charlotte observer, and pretty much every other newspaper in NC pumping out pro-unc propaganda day it and day out, it's no wonder tarholes can't think for themselves and spew all this bullshit

Anonymous said...

I'm a UNC fan, but I can't believe how immature ALL of you sound in these comments.

Anonymous said...

Welcome back, Pete Gaudet!

Anonymous said...

I don't like the Eve Carson remark at all. Totally classless and doesn't represent all of th Duke fan base. Completely disgusting.

Anonymous said...

Are you guys serious? Carolina fans...it is a celebration of Krzyzewski's 1,000 game. THEY CAN'T HAVE IT ON ANOTHER DAY. You're throwing stones at K saying he is selfish...and yet they can't celebrate his 1,000th game on the day of his 1,000th game because UNC already has their 100 year celebration scheduled that weekend? 70 years at CIS is a big 2nd fiddle here. It is one thousand games at the same program that is being celebrated.

The UNC alumni game was a huge success (may have secured Macadoo AND stolen HB from Duke) and, yes, that may have something to do with the idea and the timing...but why can't they do it? North Carolina b-ball is one of, if not the top program in college b-ball history. But it isn't the only program.

duke 4 said...

^ Well said. But then again, you think UNC fans are gonna listen?

Anonymous said...

It's his 1000th game? Are you sure? Is that including Pete Gaudet games or not?

Anonymous said...

I could see if it was krat's 1000th WIN, but come on, 1000th game, that's ridiculous.

Anonymous said...

some of you really sound like idiots...and like the great roy williams said....."i dont give a s#!t about unc"...seriously though, 1000 games coached at a school is tremendous and in about 4-5 years, we'll be celebrating his 1000th victory!!!!! GO DUKE!!!

Anonymous said...

Please tell me why any UNC fan would be jealous of what is going on in Durham right now? 1 Sweet 16 win in the last 7 seasons while UNC has 3 Final Fours and 2 titles in the last 5. It is clearly a transparent attempt at trying to pull back some of the attention UNC is getting. I'd like to see who comes back for this. Clearly the transfers won't. The current NBA guys will be "busy". That pretty much leaves the assistant coaches, Ricky Price, Greg Newton, and Domzalski.

Anonymous said...

Geez,
Fellows and Fellowetts:
When did you ALL get started on this bashing? The moment you got off the school bus?
Adults can get along. You don't have to have allegiance to the same school/program but don't take this into the gutter.
Is this the way you want your kids to act?
Duke is a great school, UNC is a great school, NC State is a great school. Wake is a great school.
Want your school to win but leave the individual attacks out.

Heel fan.

So tell me why they're celebrating his 1000th game when it's actually his 997th game at Duke? Do you still think he's not trying to just steal some thunder from UNC's 100th anniversary celebration that same weekend?

Duck fook

Anonymous said...

actually NCstate sucks...since they had Cothron, a top recruit back out today...

BACON!!!!

Anonymous said...

Did Knight or Dean or hell, any other coach in HISTORY hold a weekend celebration to honor their 1000th game?

Ego, thy name is Rat

obviously we know roy doesn't have a big ego when they make our their 100 yr anniversary to be the greatest event in north carolina

With the way UNC fans are talking about their 100 yrs celebration, it's surprising america didn't make a national holiday to celebrate the event as well

UNC>Duke.

Always has, always will be. Enjoy being the second rate program in your own state (North Carolina, not New Jersey), Dookies.

Anonymous said...

Bill: Glad to know you Dook fans are so apathetic. We'll continue to enjoy beating the hell out of you.

Anonymous said...

Odd to celebrate 1000 games at Dook when the game is not actually his 1000th game.

Anonymous said...

ROFL at the unc fans getting their panties all up in a wad over this...keep obsessing, tarholes

Anonymous said...

Face it, UNC rules the roost at the moment. May not last forever but it is what it is.

Unknown said...

Coach Gay celebrates himself! Let's invite all the all-stars of Duke past...ohhh wait..we can count them on one hand therefore it wouldn't be much of a celebration...DOOK SUX!

Pete Gaudet invited?

The Eve Carson comment is way out of line....as a father of three, your comment makes me sick to my stomach. I am amazed at how bold people can be on the internet.

The Observer said...

Seriously, get the Eve Carson comment out of here. Trash each other's fans and players if you want, but leave somebody like Eve out of this childish back and forth. And for God's sake, grow up people. If Duke wants to celebrate the 1,000th game, let 'em. Whose business is it anyway??? If UNC wants to celebrate 100 years, fantastic. Why should anybody else care???

When will both sides realize they need the other??? Neither program benefits from the other's demise. If you didn't have each other to play twice a year, the conference would be pretty miserable.

Anonymous said...

Absolutely laughable...keep trying k-rat...keep trying.

Anonymous said...

Will be happy to see Duke sweep the lousy Tarholes this year.

Brings me back to that five-year run of '99-'04 where Duke swept the holes pretty much every year. Holes fans forget about that pretty quick.

Didn't UNC lose to Vanderbilt in a scrimmage earlier this year???
