Michigan State's Izzo miffed at Roy Williams

Michigan State coach Tom Izzo is miffed at North Carolina coach Roy Williams over comments Williams made in his book and to a reporter Tuesday about Spartans forward Delvon Roe, who spurned the Tar Heels at the last minute. Williams suggested Roe was not truthful about his intentions.

Here's the story from the Grand Rapids (Mich.) Press.

I don't believe we have the entire story, nor will we ever. It is okay for a kid to change his mind, but don't tell Roy you are committed when you have already made up your mind to go somewhere else. The issue with Roe was how he handled it, not with him changing his mind. I believe it worked out for the best, Roy ended up with Ed and a NC. Not to mention 3-0 against Mich. St. and Roe along the way.

Coach Roy could change his mind at any minute and retire, go to the NBA, coach a YMCA team and the kids get stuck. The kids changes his mind and Roy gets all righteous. What about the kids Roy screwed at Kansas by going to UNC CH?

Look in the mirror before you call out an 18 year old. The kid is no more scum than you are. Maybe the kids eyes welled up with tears when he made his decision just like Roy's drama queen decision to leave Kansas?

I understand why you choose to be annonymous. Your'e either a whinning Kansas "Rock Chalk (wtf?)Jayhawk" or an ABC fan or both. Roy has the clout and credentials to be pissed off when and if he wants to.

'Nuff said. GO HEELS!

Roy changed his mind when Kansas fired his good friend AD Bob Frederick and he didn't get along too well with his replacement if my memory serves me correct. Point is, things happened which made it easier for Roy to leave.

Same can't be said for Roe. Roy stopped recruiting for his position once he received the commitment; however Roe opened up his recruitment and failed to tell Roy. Big difference.

Roy, remember "Carolina can go to He_l" after your Kanas team lost in the finals!! Do you regret that decision? You may beat out Dean in the win column, but you will never ever fill Dean Smiths Shoes.

The poster at 11:53 hit the nail on the head. You don't publicly bash a kid - particularly when you're being hypocritical when you do so. It's "Roy", not "Royalty."

Tom High

UNC is great, especially compared to Alabama. One reason is that it is not in Alabama.

Izzo is a class act.

You don't talk bad about kids in your pathetic book. There is much else to write about.

Roy will get his tomorrow at Rupp.

You can only call Roy hypocritical if he didn't tell Kansas in 2003 that UNC contacted him about the opening.

From the PC. Make your own judgements...

Reporter: Do you think there's any added controversy with you mentioning Delvon in your book about the recruiting fallout?

Williams: No, I've got some people I said a heck of a lot of bad things about - I didn't say anything bad about Delvon. I said we thought we were going to get him and we didn't get him and that he was a great player. If there was any fallout from that then people are looking for things.

Reporter: You said kids have lied to you ...

Williams: I didn't say Delvon lied, go back and read it. But I don't mind saying it - he told me he was coming, let's be honest. He said he was coming and he didn't come. I've looked every day in practice and I haven't seen him yet. But understand one thing, don't make this a bigger story than it is. I love the kid and he still think he's a wonderful kid.

Funny...when I saw the title of "Izzo miffed at Roy" I thought it was going to be about how Roy keeps whipping Mich. St. like it was their job. But, I guess he's prob a little mad about that too.

GO HEELS!!

If there is a finer coach and gentleman than Roy Williams I have never seen him. I have been a life long UNC fan and he is better than Dean. I've watched for 50 or so years now. The only mistake he has made is not coming home the first time it was offered. I do have serious doubts about the integrity and mannerism of about 90% of the people that post comments here. Once on a while I find one that makes a little sense....I just forget the rest. If i had a kid talented enough to have the opportunity to play for Roy Williams and he commotted...he would play there or any where else he first committed or he probably wouldn't be able to play when I was finished with him. That is what's wrong with this country now....nobody it seems feels the need to be loyal to anyone.

the quote is "I could give a shit about Carolina right now." anybody from where Roy is from (North Carolina) should know that all that meant was "I don't want to talk about that right now."

Seems Roy Boy always whines when things do not go his way. I sure would have liked to hear what he had to say after his tarholes got theirs whomped on by SYRACUSE...

it is pretty low for a coach to call out a college kid. Also, what does it accomplish? UNC is doing fine, its not like it destroyed his program missing that recruit. 18 year olds are allowed to change their mind.

Roy Williams needs to get over himself... he sold out Kansas but at the same time he's whining about 18 year olds selling him out. To name names on teeanagers in your crappy book is a joke. Who the hell cares, you get the recruits you get, and you're measured on how they do. Quit worrying and whining about the ones you didn't get...
